Synergistic Activities

1.     Cottingham is CO-PI on a NEH JISC award which provides funding for the development of software for spatio-temporal correlation and analysis of historical US railroad and news paper data from the 19th century.

2.     Cottingham serves as President of Red Brain inc., a UNL faculty startup corporation formed to facilitate intellectual property transfer and commercialization activities for grant funded research projects.

3.     Cottingham leads the UNL CSCE Renaissance Computing Initiative focusing on the integration of computing best practices to form collaborative interdisciplinary research teams.

4.     Cottingham directs the UNL CSCE development team focused on the creation of a cyberinfrastructure for unified access and interaction with federated genomic and phylogenetic databases. (NSF 0743783)

5.     Cottingham leads the software development partnership, funded in part by the National Institute of Health, between the Computing Innovation Group and University of Nebraska State Museum to develop mobile device software to assist teens in learning about viruses. (NSF R25RR024267-01)

6.     Cottingham leads the UNL CSCE Team in a $7.5 million partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency, Drought Risk, Impact and Mitigation System. This project brings partners at both the National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC) and (USDA RMA) together to develop decision support systems (http://greenleaf.unl.edu). (USDA-RMA 02-IE-0831-0028, USDA-RMA 05-IE-0831-0254)

7.     Cottingham was P.I. for a project with Region V Services of Nebraska to develop interactive meeting simulation modules to help train adults with developmental disabilities to serve on community boards.

8.     Cottingham was P.I. for a partnership with Los Angeles County 211 to study and improve the data standard for the sharing of data between information referral systems. His recommendations were approved by the AIRS Board of Directors and became version 3.0 of the data standard.
